As the school year came to an unanticipated anticlimactic close, we were left with more uncertainty about what the future holds.   One of the most disconcerting aspects of the global pandemic: our plans are suddenly upended, now, and for the foreseeable future.  However, we do know one thing for certain: The Backpack Buddies Foundation of Loudoun (BBFL) will fulfill our commitment to the kids and families in Loudoun County who rely on us to help supplement their nutritional needs.

The reality is that our pandemic imposed “break” may very well extend into the Fall in one form or another. As of this writing, Loudoun County Public Schools (LCPS) are tentatively splitting up their instructional time between distance learning and on-site classes. This schedule will undoubtedly affect how meal distribution is managed and will require closely coordinated efforts with the organizations we are proud to support as our partners.  We are working to redouble our efforts to make sure that students who may fall into the gap in food provisioning while the pandemic persists and even after the Covid-19 crisis is over, can count on BBFL to be there for them.

Here are the steps we are taking to help alleviate the problems and pressures placed on our constituency:

We continue to work with Mobile HopeLoudoun Hunger Relief, and LCPS to assist them in spreading accurate news updates and changes in schedules as they happen.  The need for financial assistance we provide to our food resource Backpack Buddy partners is still great. Now more than ever enough the need for your continuing contributions to our cause is important to continuing our mission. Through your financial support we will continue to disperse funds to the BBFL partners who are front line providers in our community during these uncertain times.

In addition to the organizations already mentioned, here are a few more that you may want to reach out to either give or receive help from:

Catholic Charities – Leesburg Food Pantry

Salvation Army – Feed the Hungry Program

We continue to be passionately committed to eradicating hunger in our community.  All our community resources have been stressed because of the Pandemic and its impact on our schools and children. That is an undeniable fact, but with your financial support, we can help ease the worry of children who in addition to missing their classrooms and friends, are feeling anxious about where they will find their next meal.
